Tommy Simmons will discuss who can file unemployment claims, the conditions for filing claims, what the qualification and eligibility criteria are for receiving unemployment benefits, methods for appealing adverse rulings, best strategies for handling claim responses and appeals, how an employer can qualify for chargeback protection, and how unemployment claims affect employers’ unemployment tax rates. He will also cover the Texas Payday Law and how TWC enforces the special requirements in that law for legally paying employees. Finally, he will highlight the most important bills that have been filed in the Texas Legislature so far in 2023 and how those bills will impact Texas employers if they pass into law.
